About the project (provided by the applicant)
The Ascension — the third object in a trilogy of ascetic houses by architect Evgeny Martyshkin. It is a carefully considered monolithic concrete solution, where a single material performs multiple functions: living volume, parking, and visual screen, unified by the concept of a cross.
Composition and techniques:
- The cross shape is read in the roof projection and on the eastern façade, defining the dominant graphic and plan orientation.
- The opening in the slab above the parking continues the cross motif and strengthens the dialogue between volume and void.
- Play with shadow is a deliberate technique: light and dark spots become architectural projections, shaping the façade and interior.
- Monolithic concrete is poured into a wooden formwork — the board impressions remain on the surface, adding texture and tactility to the minimalist material palette.
