Project
Alvand — Islamic bazaar

Best Project of Public Building or Facility
About the project (provided by the applicant)
The project in Alvand City reinterprets the Iranian bazaar as the nucleus of a multifunctional complex. While the program emphasized large-scale administrative functions, a vertical organization minimized the footprint and preserved open space for public use.
At its heart, a central courtyard and sunken Persian garden establish introversion and continuity, inspired by traditional bazaars. The design embraces a core principle of Iranian architecture: overall symmetry with asymmetry in detail. A central axis and landscaped core create balance, while shifted volumes and façade proportions generate diversity and depth.
The sunken garden acts as a functional hub, linking sports, cultural, commercial, and hospitality spaces with the urban realm. This strategy allows simultaneous yet independent operation, ensuring flexibility throughout different times of the day.
