Project
Conservation Works of the Anglican Church of Jesus Christ – Adaptation into a Concert Hall
Category
Best Implemented Project for Adaptation of a Cultural Heritage Site
About the project (provided by the applicant)
Restoration and repair works in the former Anglican Church of Jesus Christ were carried out from 2022 to 2025. Emergency structural elements were reinforced, and the facades and interiors—including the main church hall, foyer, entrance lobby, and staircase—were restored. Historical references guided the reconstruction of windows, doors, bronze chandeliers, fireplaces, columns, and pilasters.
The building preserves and restores a unique ensemble of 15 stained-glass windows by Heaton, Butler & Bayne, a historic 1877 Brindley & Foster church organ, and a replica of Rubens’ painting “The Descent from the Cross.” Under the Soviet-era parquet, Metlakh tiles were discovered, carefully restored, and turned into a museum exhibit. The concert hall was equipped with technologies enabling 3D projections, video, and lighting effects, with special illumination for the stained-glass windows and organ. Other rooms were adapted for office and technical needs, dressing rooms for performers, and uniquely designed restrooms.
