About the project (provided by the applicant)
The stage design is executed in a strict minimalist aesthetic, where every detail becomes a symbol. The central element is a blood-red road sharply rising upward, representing the path of passion leading to inevitable downfall. It is reflected in the fragile facets of a massive crystal chandelier hanging above the characters like the Damocles sword of high society. Its shards—broken chandeliers on the sides—create a sense of shattered illusion, where the brilliance of imperial luxury turns into the fragility of human fate.
The characters literally drown in exquisite yet cold black-and-white costumes—velvet, silk, feathers, and diamonds become their prison. Only Anna stands out as a scarlet spot, a living embodiment of that fateful road. Her dress is not merely a bright accent, but a visual cry echoing the line of her destiny: from passion to tragedy. The minimalist scenography emphasizes the core idea: in this world, even love becomes part of theatrical conventions, where every gesture is visible, and private drama is performed for the audience.

Tomsk Regional Order of the Red Banner of Labor Drama Theatre
The Tomsk Regional Order of the Red Banner of Labor Drama Theatre is one of the oldest cultural institutions in Siberia, tracing its history back to 1850, when Nikolai Evtikhievich Filimonov, a Tomsk entrepreneur and city mayor (1840–1848), partially at his own expense and partially through subscription funds, built the first wooden theatre in Tomsk. Today, the theatre maintains an active creative life and is a regular recipient of grants for staging performances.
