The V. P. Astafyev National Center is a unique multifunctional space that reflects the legacy of the writer in the context of Russian culture and national consciousness.
The architectural image of the building is based on a combination of three “shells,” each distinct in material and meaning. The wooden shell, designed in the style of traditional rural architecture, blends the structure into its surroundings. The stone plastered shell forms the structural core, symbolizing the stone base of a Russian log house and the Russian stove. The glass shell evokes the grandeur of the Yenisei River and unites all elements into a cohesive architectural ensemble.
The transparent walls of the entrance hall reveal the building's structural frame, referencing the wartime “teplushka” train cars and the first railway bridge across the Yenisei. A large illuminated portrait of the writer is installed in the reception area, projecting his image outward. At the highest point of the building shines the “Astafyev Beacon,” guiding both visitors and residents of Ovsyanka.
