The Astronomy and Space Science Gallery at Gujarat Science City is India’s largest space exploration facility, designed as both an educational landmark & an architectural metaphor for the cosmos. Spread across 12797 sqm, the Gallery is organised around a soaring central atrium enclosed in transparent glazing, symbolising the Sun, with four peripheral blocks representing planetary orbits. A monumental brass-plated globe suspended above an amphitheatre anchors the space, while a 24m diameter steel planetarium dome appears to float on four V-shaped columns, heightening the sense of cosmic wonder.
The structure employs steel bracings, large cantilevers & perforated metal screens to achieve both futuristic form & environmental performance. Daylighting, solar shading & high-performance envelope & renewable systems ensure comfort and efficiency. Immersive galleries & observation decks transform the facility into a dynamic architectural experience—merging science, symbolism & sustainability.
