The Big Ural Hotel, a cultural heritage site, is part of a key urban development node in the center of Yekaterinburg, established by the city’s master plan of the 1930s.
The project concept presents the history of the city, starting from the era of the Ural Region (1924–1932), and its future development prospects. The core of the concept is a volumetric, variable city model (scale 1:1000). Around it, the main functions are arranged: a museum center, art gallery, conference halls, lecture rooms, library, and archive. The historic restaurant “BUSH” is restored, and cafés, bars, a bookstore, offices, and coworking spaces are included.
New buildings are connected to the historic structure with walkways, and inside — landscaped enclosed courtyards on the stylobate. Most of the complex’s space is dedicated to apartments: long-term stay units in the historic building, and residential art residences in the new building — comfortable cell-like apartments with varying levels and double-height spaces, reflecting the ideas of Soviet avant-garde.
