Project
“Bridge over the Canal” Airport Interior

Category
Best Project of Public Space by Student

About the project (provided by the applicant)
The planned airport building is located in the Vyborgsky District of Saint Petersburg, with a capacity of 600 passengers.

The concept, “bridge over the canal,” reflects the urban context. The main volumetric-planning element is a double-height check-in hall connecting the forecourt and the apron. Two groups of escalators lift passengers to the bridge linking the food service and security areas.

The interior simulates being under a bridge: an open spatial roof truss with cables evokes reflections on water. The visual theme of the street canal continues inside the building. The spatial truss and cable structures ensure continuity and integrity of the interior space.

The design emphasizes proximity to water: glass ceiling fixtures shaped like fish, LED strands under the bridge creating a flow effect, glass columns providing soft diffuse light, 3D wall panels depicting water currents, and a canal map at the check-in counters. Natural stone and light-toned wood are used as finishing materials, giving the interior an ecological feel and a connection to nature.
