Best Architectural Design for Museum
About the project (provided by the applicant)
The National Museum of the Republic of Buryatia is located on an island in the central part of Ulan-Ude.
The goal of the design was to create a memorable building that fully reflects the national identity, culture, and spirituality of Buryatia.
The architecture was inspired by the image of a lotus floating along the waters of the Uda River. The museum has a central layout composed of eight petals: four large and four small.
The façades incorporate elements that emphasize Buryatia’s national character. The large petals feature detailed ornamentation reminiscent of the stained glass windows of Buddhist datsans, while the small petals display symbolic inscriptions in the national language: “heritage of traditions,” “history and culture,” “art and future,” and “spirituality.”
