“Solitary Confinement” Museum Space within the Prison Castle Regeneration
Category

About the project (provided by the applicant)
The museum space is located on the lower floor of the main building of the historic architectural monument, the Prison Castle. The exhibition project was developed as part of the reconstruction of the existing prison. Almost no natural light enters the space, allowing the Solitary Confinement area to be fully immersed in darkness and fear.
The historical stone walls of the dark corridors are preserved, conveying the “genius loci” not only through archival documents. Removable installations, combined with the play of light, shadow, and color, give each cell its own role and character. Visiting the space intensifies emotions that linger until the very end. The museum space reveals to each guest the harsh realities of prison life, its legends, and rich history.
