Category Best Implemented Project of Private Residence
About the project (provided by the applicant) Casa no Meco is a single-family house located in Aldeia do Meco, a small village on the Portuguese Atlantic Coast. The proposal was a simple building with a pitched roof that follows the village identity and the longitudinal shape of the lot. On the street facade to the north, the small openings on the huge whitewashed walls ensure privacy and acoustic protection. Inside, the house gradually opens out onto its south-facing garden through large windows covered with exterior wooden shutters. The materials and construction solutions respect the local tradition and hark back to well-known images of mediterranean villages. It is through a contemporary approach of subtraction that the undesirable surroundings are contoured and the privileged sun exposure is exploited.
Applicant Fábio Ferreira Neves is a Portuguese architect based in Zürich, Switzerland. He has developed projects as an independent architect both in Switzerland and Portugal.
