About the project (provided by the applicant)
The Dāmāhi Complex is conceived as a visionary cultural-tourism and urban regeneration initiative located in the historic coastal neighborhood of Soru in Bandar Abbas, southern Iran. At the heart of its philosophy lies the myth of Dāmāhi, a legendary fish deeply embedded in the collective memory of the people of Hormozgan. The myth tells of a giant fish in the Persian Sea that, throughout history, came to the aid of coastal communities in moments of despair—guiding lost sailors back to safety, delivering jewels to shore-dwellers in times of scarcity, and ultimately sacrificing its own life to shield the inhabitants of the coast from a catastrophic storm. The very name Dāmāhi comes from the fusion of da (meaning “to give”) and māhi (fish), symbolizing the generous fish whose existence was devoted to protecting and sustaining life.
