Prison Castle Regeneration

About the project (provided by the applicant)
The walls of prisons are originally imbued with a peculiar energy—some people went mad or ended their lives here, while others were drawn to the intense, mysterious atmosphere. The Prison Castle complex consists of 11 buildings. Tourists and locals will be able to explore a craft street with workshops by local architects, as well as a market square. Visitors can stroll around the pond or climb observation platforms. A restaurant, café, and bakery will be open to all. The main building of the Prison Castle will host guests from different cities as a guesthouse.
Historical stone walls of the “solitary confinement” cells are preserved, conveying the “genius loci” not only through historical documents. Removable installations, along with the play of light, shadow, and color, give each cell its own role and character. The museum space reveals the harsh realities of prison life, its legends, and rich history to every visitor.
