Project
Landscape Organization and Development of the Waterfront Area
Category
Best Project of Public Space by Student
About the project (provided by the applicant)
The project site is located in Naryan-Mar, along the Gorodetsky Shar channel. The city is the administrative center of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, with a population of 25,537.
Currently, sustainable development of northern Russian cities is a pressing issue. Naryan-Mar is a vivid example of a settlement with the potential to demonstrate landscape and architectural methods that can improve the local climate conditions, ecological situation, and create a new tourist route.
Naryan-Mar heavily depends on water resources, as the river serves as a transport link with settlements of the Arctic region. At the same time, the city still lacks a well-developed waterfront.
Developing the urban environment will help overcome stagnation in the quality-of-life growth. Creating youth spaces, organizing recreational activities, and developing scenarios for the territory’s use will all contribute to improving life for residents.
