Project
Design Project for a Public Square
Category
Best Project of Public Space by Student
About the project (provided by the applicant)
The proposed site is located along Dorofeeva Street and Severnaya Drive, integrated into an existing urban environment that includes residential complexes, the Church of St. Aristocles of Athos, a shopping center, a food market, and sports facilities.
The main idea is the Orenburg shawl as a symbol, which transforms into the central square and the focal point of the area. In summer, it serves as a fountain zone, while in winter, it becomes a venue for a Christmas tree and a snowman festival.
Considering the elongated shape of the site, a zoning plan was developed to create a balance between quiet and active areas. In the northern part of the square, a tranquil zone is formed, featuring small architectural forms (SAFs) “House in the Forest” and “Café.” These elements provide opportunities for solitude and peaceful rest, creating an atmosphere of comfort and harmony.
The southern part of the square is designated as an active zone, containing sports and children’s playgrounds.
