DIEN-XUONG Vietnam performing folk arts centre

About the project
“First of all, I am convinced that Vietnamese Folk music (...) has been undoubtedly the fusion of local dialect and (either folk or academic) literature and poetry, which is formed by the mind and the heart of the Intellectuals and the Peasants,” musician and music theorist Phạm Duy said in “Thesis of the Vietnamese Folk Music”.
The design focuses on exploiting the fundamental performing spaces of the Vietnamese folk performing arts — the open and semi-open spaces. These spaces are isolated from each other by enclosed spaces — served as the transitions between performing spaces or the theatres for some particular forms of performing arts those require enclosure. Therefore, the journey of exploring Vietnamese folk performing arts from the Southern to the Northern would be coherent and consecutive.
