Project
Don Quixote – Initial set design reconstruction

Category
Best Implemented Theatre Set Design

About the project
This ballet was first presented in the Opéra National de Paris in 1960s, and since then it has always been on the repertoire, although the set design was changed. Loran Iler, a student of Rudolf Nuryev, the director of the original play, wanted to present the opera at the Stanislavsky Music Theatre with the initial decorations designed by Nicholas Georgiadis. Alas, sketches available weren’t enough to simply rebuild the set, and the Stanislavsky Theatre is much smaller than the Opera House in Paris. Having done much research and studied other works of the artist, the stage designer managed to glean enough data to make the decoration set anew and also adjusted it to the Moscow-based stage specifics.
