The Emarat in Rasht’s Sagharisazan neighborhood is a century-old witness to urban life. After years of vacancy leading to deterioration, its restoration aimed not only to preserve the historic building but to revive its role in community life. The building’s mudbrick and brick walls, 60-70 cm thick, faced structural issues like a 5-degree tilt in the eastern wall and weak shallow foundation. These were carefully stabilized with minimal interventions, including new foundation encasement and wall reinforcements. Historical additions, such as a 1950s veranda with two-sided stairs, were preserved. A new «Bahar Khwab» (sleeping veranda) was added inside the roof without damage. The original tiled roof and landscape drainage were meticulously restored to suit the rainy climate. The project followed endogenous revitalization principles, reconnecting the Emarat with local memory and community, ensuring it remains a vibrant, living home.
