About the project
The study of the universe and the cycles of time were fundamental for the great Mayan people, the precision achieved by this civilization amazes with the exact calculations of the synodic periods of various planets. Astronomers, aptly named Mayan priests, were able to predict eclipses and provide symbology for humanity's present, past, and future. The Mayan lunar cycle is governed by the phases of the moon, each of the 13 Mayan months bears the name and shape of an animal based on constellations. The Paris codex was studied for the development of this installation where the artist Adrián Gómez reinterprets the Mayan zodiac codices, under the concept of worldview. The installation is made up of 5 steel and acrylic panels that form a pentagon that represents the cosmos. The interior of the work is called an eclipse. This installation is located according to the movement of the sun and the moon. The images cast a shadow over the course of the day.
