About the project (provided by the applicant)
Forest Villa, located near Dashu Mountain National Forest Park in Hefei, reflects a poetic dialogue between architecture and nature. Inspired by the site’s serene topography, architects Jenchieh Hung + Kulthida Songkittipakdee / HAS Design and Research introduced the concepts of shell, hole, and void to shape a living experience of lightness, spirit, and retreat.

Shell-like facades frame views and light while connecting interior and exterior. Rhythmic holes evoke a layered forest, blending structure with nature. Void spaces mediate transitions and emotions, enhancing calm and ritual. A multi-use hall on the third floor adapts to day and night with openable panels for light, wind, and sky. Below ground, cave-like spaces with skylit courtyards connect to bamboo gardens, forming a tranquil retreat.

Forest Villa transcends the idea of a private home—merging tradition, landscape, and modern life into a spiritual and timeless sanctuary.
