Project
“Buying a Garage”

Category
Best Implemented Project of Temporary or Permanent Museum Exposition

About the project (provided by the applicant)
The architectural bureau .dpt designed the “Buying a Garage” exhibition at the Sevkabel Port space. The project is dedicated to the garage and garage culture as a socio-cultural phenomenon. Previously, the exhibition was held at the Museum of Moscow and attracted over 33,000 visitors in six months. For the new location in the UKT building, the architects needed to preserve the curatorial concept while adapting it to a smaller hall.

The exposition is organized into three thematic sections: the introductory zone shows various scenarios of garage use; a closed pavilion-portal serves as a transition to the main area; and the main zone is filled with thematic pavilions forming the “garage residents” portraits. The key element is the duality of themes: the “showcase of happiness” (a stand with blue drapery) and “for those who can reach everything” (a garage made of red fabric). On the plan, they face each other, creating a tense contrast that emphasizes the diversity and multilayered nature of garage culture.

The .dpt (department) architectural bureau emerged from the creative partnership of Ksenia Karavaeva and Murat Guketlov. Since 2019, the team has realized projects of various scales and typologies: from chairs, exhibitions, and pavilions to large residential, cultural, social objects, and urban territories. Their experience and expertise allow for unconventional solutions that harmoniously combine art, architecture, and design. In 2022, .dpt launched an industrial design direction.
