Project
Graffiti Artist’s House
Category
Best Implemented Project of Private Residence
About the project (provided by the applicant)
The cubic house of 86 sq. m was built on the edge of a floodplain meadow in the Vladimir Region. The idea of the project came from graffiti artist Spider, its implementation was carried out by art developer Alexandra Bacca, and Le Atelier bureau was engaged in project development.
The house stands on a natural plot with steep riverbanks and “speaks” with the name of its owner, repeatedly inscribed on the façade. The façade design was made by the graffiti artist himself. To achieve such an expressive statement, it was important to create a very simple and monumental shape — the house took the form of a cube with thick walls.
The result of the interaction between architecture and graffiti, which often confront each other in the urban environment, was a symbiosis of arts embodied in this project. The artist painted his own house with his name in a natural landscape rather than in the urban setting more common for this art form. The architecture was originally designed not only as a living space but also as a canvas for the artist.
