About the project (provided by the applicant)
The main idea of the project was to create a “sanctuary” surrounded by the unique nature of the Leningrad Region. The house is designed in a minimalist style. Ascetic architecture and angular roof forms emphasize the building’s Nordic character. The site is located in a pine and spruce forest with a pronounced slope. Special attention was given to preserving existing trees. The lower level of the house, following the terrain’s undulations, features varied ceiling heights that adapt to the natural landscape. The first floor combines all public functions: a spacious kitchen-living area with a fireplace, a spa zone, a study, and utility rooms. The upper level houses private bedroom blocks with en-suite bathrooms and walk-in closets.
The minimalism of the house harmonizes with its surroundings: just as there is no excess vegetation in a coniferous forest, the final composition emphasizes only three pure elements — the verticality of tree trunks, the horizontal plane of the ground, and the geometry of the building itself.
