About the project (provided by the applicant) The monument symbolically depicts Valery Grushin, his figure standing on a river shore shown a moment before he jumped into the icy water. His hands spread apart feature a gesture of readiness to come to the rescue of drowning children. He stands near a symbolic boat which capsized and caused the tragedy.
The children’s figures express gratitude to their savior. The figure of Valery is reminiscent of an anchor, which is a well-known symbol of salvation. Mr. Grushin and his boat are connected to form an Orthodox cross – a symbol of victory over death. The guitar is intended to remind of the popular Russian song festival named after the hero.
