ICHI-GO ICHI-E Restaurant

Best Implemented Interior Design Project for Public Space

About the project (provided by the applicant)

The interior design of the ICHI-GO ICHI-E restaurant weaves together the visual references to Asia: Buddhist capitals, Japan of the 1980s, nocturnal Hong Kong, and futuristic Singapore. The restaurant's name, derived from the Zen Buddhist saying «one chance in a lifetime,» evokes a sense of mindfulness and the preciousness of each moment.

The interior features handmade elements, including partitions made from washi paper and crane-shaped lamps, crafted by artisans from St. Petersburg. It uses over fifty different textures and materials, with lighting that accentuates every detail.

The immersive experience begins in the entrance hall, reminiscent of temple corridors in Japan, with a striking red «portal» marking the cloakroom and reception area. The main hall is divided into three zones: a classic Japanese space with traditional partitions, a modern section filled with greenery, and a central space featuring an asymmetrical column that serves as a media screen. Additionally, there is a separate hall that transports guests into the atmospheric nightscape of Hong Kong.
