Design Concept for a Tourist Route at the Fortification Complex “Breakthrough of the Defense Node 1944,” Karhumäki Castle

About the project (provided by the applicant)
The museum complex project envisions a network of pedestrian routes, observation towers, pavilions, and a funicular line with stops at key sites within the complex. The walking paths run both along the surface and through preserved trenches, forming circular routes.

The revitalization of the Finnish fortifications involves their museification while preserving historical authenticity. A key task was the development of original exhibitions that reflect historical events without disrupting the existing visual composition. Narrow beams of projectors illuminate only key sections, preventing light from spilling into other areas. This creates an immersive historical atmosphere and emphasizes the authenticity of the preserved fortification elements. All exhibition solutions are tailored to the features of each structure, maximizing their historical value and uniqueness.
