About the project (provided by the applicant)
The set is a circular architectural structure that, using a rotating stage, reveals various locations of the action. At its center is a golden podium — the king's throne, symbolizing his power and vanity. An identical element is suspended above on the fly system; it slowly descends during the performance and ultimately covers Lear at the moment of his death. The side sections of the structure represent a prison, a hut, and the homes of Regan and Goneril. The set remains in motion, just like Lear, who flees from his daughters, from the truth, and from accepting his mistakes. In the finale, everything comes to a halt, and the structure unites into a whole.
