About the project (provided by the applicant)
Liwa Farm Village emerges from the heart of the Liwa Oasis as a testament to desert heritage and communal life. Anchored in local identity, it celebrates the memory of Al Gharbia through the careful reinterpretation of traditional techniques, aflaj (فلج), windcatchers (ملقف), rammed earth, and palm-frond construction, crafting a built environment in harmony with its arid surroundings. The village is interwoven with productive date plantations, spaces for animal care, and areas for cultural exchange, creating a dialogue between people, land, and oasis. Each courtyard and pathway evokes belonging, connecting residents and visitors to both nature and heritage. Beyond functional design, the project embodies resilience and sustainable stewardship, transforming architecture into a living canvas where history, ecology, and community converge in a continuous, generative conversation with the desert.
