Lotus Pond Lakeside Library

Best Design Project for Library

About the project (provided by the applicant)
By Kaohsiung’s historic Lotus Pond, the Lotus Pond Lakeside Library bridges cultural heritage and modern life. Minimalist fair-faced concrete and floor-to-ceiling windows create open, light-filled spaces that blend seamlessly with nature. Sustainable strategies—optimized orientation, shading, ventilation, insulation, rainwater reuse, and native landscaping—reduce energy use while enhancing harmony with the environment.

The collection emphasizes local history and environmental themes, reinforcing ties to place. Seasonal changes enrich the setting, from lotus blossoms to autumn colors, turning the library into a living landscape.More than a reading space, it integrates a yoga room, spa, children’s playroom, restaurant, and outdoor decks connected to walking paths. Hosting cultural events and community activities, it has become a landmark for knowledge, leisure, and sustainable urban living, showcasing Kaohsiung’s heritage and modern charm.
