«Malaz El-Sahraa» is a public contemplation space that aims to blend the quiet beauty of the desert with the urban fabric. The project is inspired by the camel as a symbol of patience, and the tent as a sanctuary.
The project is designed with a strong internal metal structure onto which hollow terracotta units are fixed. The innovation lies in the windcatchers that mimic the necks of the camel, and which operate on the principle of the Venturi effect to provide natural and refreshing ventilation.
To enrich the sensory experience, we integrated small acoustic holes in the neck of the windcatchers, which emit a «whistling sound» akin to the call of the desert. The experience is completed by the sparkling light from the recycled ceramic on the walls and the movement of the suspended translucent fabrics that create a serene visual scene. Around the project, fragrant grasses and plants are grown to stabilize the sand dunes, while a gentle stream of water creates a peaceful sound.

Bayan Ezzat Maslem (Fernando)
Born in 2003, a fourth-year student in the Faculty of Architecture at the Arab University for Science and Technology. Participated in the Inspireli Awards competition for the years 2024 and 2025, works as a volunteer at the Twenty Two Architecture Group.
Advisor: Saba Khaddour, MA and PhD in Architecture, academic advisor at the Arab University for Science and Technology and the University of Homs.
