The Mardjani Mosque (1770) is one of the oldest stone mosques in Kazan. It was built with the personal permission of Empress Catherine II and named after the prominent Tatar theologian, historian, and educator Shigabutdin Mardjani, who served as its imam.
In 2023, the State Budgetary Institution “Center for Cultural Heritage of Tatarstan” developed the scientific and design documentation, and in 2023–2024, the United Construction Company LLC carried out repair and restoration works.
During the works, the facades with decorative elements were recreated; door and window frames were replaced and restored according to historical samples; decorative metalwork, the bypass gallery with ornate railing on the minaret, were restored; the historical interiors with stucco decoration and gilding were recreated. The historical pattern and color scheme of the ceramics were restored. All engineering and utility systems were replaced. The mosque grounds were improved with the restoration of the historic stone fence.

The specialists of the Center take part in surveys of cultural heritage sites, scientific research, and project works, including historical and architectural, historical and urban planning, memorial, and archaeological studies, as well as preparation of technical condition reports for cultural heritage sites.
