The core of the sculptural composition is the image of a DNA spiral, symbolizing the origins and development of military and civilian medicine, seamlessly transitioning into the daily life of medical workers. Three figures are arranged around the spiral. The central figure is a doctor with a stethoscope, sitting down for a brief rest after his work. Nearby, a female surgeon prepares for surgery, adjusting her gloves, while a nurse with an IV drip rushes to help patients.
Key milestones of medical work are depicted in eight scenes on the spiral: surgeons, doctors, and nurses saving patients from the time of Pirogov to the present day. Historical figures are also portrayed: the world’s first military nurse Dasha Sevastopolskaya and the first Russian woman physician Varvara Alexandrovna Rudneva-Kashevarova. The monument embodies the symbol of Orenburg’s medical workers: “With care for everyone’s health.” The steps of the pedestal feature some of the most notable historical quotations about medicine in Russian and Latin.
