Project
Mojkovac War Memorial Center
Category
Best Architectural Design for Museum
About the project (provided by the applicant)
The architectural concept of the memorial center symbolizes the act of Sergeant Novak Vuković burying all weapons during the Battle of Mojkovac to prevent them from falling into enemy hands. The subsequent
explosion becomes a metaphor for the hopes, dreams, and acts of heroism being absorbed by the earth and scattered across the landscape. To emphasize this connection to the soil, rammed earth is used as the primary
building material. The structure thus embodies the postwar return of the earth to the surface and the beginning of new life, strengthening the sense of belonging to the place.
The memorial center is composed of two vertical planes and one horizontal plane that harmonize with the existing topography.
