MOOONO Meditative Center

About the project (provided by the applicant)
The project proposes a concept for the reconstruction of the abandoned territory of the Santa Maria del Piano Abbey.
Rustle, laughter, phone vibration, text on a billboard, a stream of short videos. And suddenly five, then ten minutes have passed unnoticed. We live in an amazing time. With a smile, we are offered a product, shown a “unique” film, told who is good, and given a book that explains exactly what is wrong with us and how to change. In this flow of information, it is easy to lose oneself.

In our struggle against the oppression of our attention and thoughts, we were inspired by the etymology of the word “monk,” which comes from the word “mono” — one, a person who is alone with thoughts about God. We were interested in interpreting monasticism in terms of asceticism and self-discovery, considering modern challenges of concentration. The project reimagines the abbey as a meditative center. It connects humans with nature and themselves — creating a new space for deep self-awareness.
