Project
Architectural and Artistic Lighting of the Murom Bridge
Category
Best Implemented Architectural Lighting Project in Russia
About the project (provided by the applicant)
The Murom Bridge, built in 2009, is one of the most remarkable architectural objects in the Nizhny Novgorod Region. It holds a special place among the country's engineering structures—it was the first cable-stayed bridge designed and built in Russia. In 2013, it was named the most beautiful bridge in Russia.
In lighting the bridge, special attention was paid to the pylons as key architectural details. We sought to preserve the visual integrity of these monumental elements and emphasize their geometry. Illumination of the lateral and inner faces of the pylons with colored light enhances their perception and creates the effect of a «living» object without overwhelming the evening environment. Red color, as the primary choice, is expected to make the bridge less attractive to birds and reduce the likelihood of the bridge being used as a nocturnal landmark.
The cables, illuminated with cool white light, connect the pylons and form the bridge's evening silhouette.
