About the project (provided by the applicant)
The Museum of Archaeology at Badami is envisioned as an experiential space that engages deeply with the region’s cultural and geological identity. Once the capital of the Early Chalukyan dynasty, Badami is renowned for its rock-cut temples, sandstone cliffs, and layered traditions. Drawing inspiration from the tectonic fall of rock—a process of fall, breaking, fragmentation, and fusion—the museum reinterprets this natural sequence as an architectural metaphor. Spaces are imagined as carved, fractured, and reassembled, echoing Badami’s terrain and history. The design aims not only to preserve artefacts but to curate memory and evoke the spirit of place, allowing visitors to experience archaeology as a living narrative. Pathways, voids, and thresholds mirror the journey of discovery, while communal and interpretive spaces foster dialogue and continuity.
