About the project (provided by the applicant)
Museum of Russian Science & Technical Aesthetics is conceived as a radical cultural landmark, uniting Russia’s legacy of discovery with its avant-garde tradition. Its geometry evokes the visionary spirit of constructivism and the monumental radicalism of the late Soviet era, reimagined through digital tools. The building becomes an artifact of technical imagination — a sculptural manifesto merging art and science. It is conceived not as stone or steel but as 3D printed fog, symbolizing the intangible yet omnipresent nature of knowledge: shifting, elusive, and in constant motion. Fog-like surfaces transform with light, dissolving boundaries between form and atmosphere, permanence and ephemerality. This paradoxical material invites visitors to experience the museum as both architecture and phenomenon. Rather than imitating existing forms, the project proposes a new aesthetic of technical imagination, continuing the legacy of Tatlin, Melnikov, and Soviet monumentalism in the digital age.

Applicant
Lazaros Mavromatidis

Lazaros Mavromatidis is a Greek-born French architect-engineer, PhD, and HDR, specializing in constructal, and theoretical thermodynamics for architecture. His research explores the links between thermodynamics and morphogenesis, generating fluid forms where architecture becomes the mirror of flows. After teaching at INSA Strasbourg, he is now Full Professor of Science and Technology for Architecture at ENSA Paris-Malaquais – PSL, bridging research and pedagogy through experimental design.
