Category
Best Implemented Restoration
About the project (provided by the applicant)
The first wooden fortification in the site of today’s Old Ladoga Fortress was built in the 9th century.
After it was almost totally destroyed in the 10th century, and it was only in the 1950s that restoration works led by A. Ekk started there.
In the 1990s the works were ceased because of the low budget and continued only in 2008.
In 2024, they are still doing archaeological research to finalize the exhibition with different kinds of fortifications united in a single ensemble. Later, they are going to restore the Hiding Tower.
