Project
OOPHAGA Cabin
Category
Best Project of Public Building or Facility
About the project (provided by the applicant)
The dense tropical rainforest of Chocó is home to the species Oophaga solanensis, a frog characterized by its striking colors. This coloration is an evolutionary adaptation known as aposematism, by which the organism warns its predators of its toxicity.
The shape of the project, inspired by the morphology of the frog, opens towards the jungle and inside, reconnecting the user with those emotions associated with danger and alertness, generating an ephemeral atmosphere in which the perception of natural light and the landscape becomes a profound sensory experience.
The roof has been designed in laminated wood and waterproofed with a strategic slope that optimizes the evacuation of rainwater, simultaneously allowing it to be captured and stored for reuse.
The cabins, strategically located, offer framed views that highlight the beauty and diversity of the surroundings. This arrangement favors the contemplation of the landscape, while promoting research, conservation and tourism.
