Project
Exposition “Planet Ocean” of the Museum of the World Ocean, first phase
Category
Best Implemented Project of Temporary or Permanent Museum Exposition
About the project (provided by the applicant)
The museum space is designed according to the principles of museum scenography under the narrative of a “ship of science.” From the entrance, visitors encounter elements that immerse them in the ship’s reality: the café is a wardroom, the souvenir shop is a boatswain’s store, the notice board is a logbook, the cloakroom is a hold, and so on.
Visitors move through the “ship’s decks” — thematic laboratories with unique designs, each exploring the World Ocean from its own perspective: the Baltic Sea Lab, Life Lab, Water and Air Lab, Technology Lab, Space and Earth Lab, Beauty Lab, the “Great Ocean” hall, a library, a large-scale aquarium exhibition, and a cinema-planetarium screening 360-degree full-dome films.
The exposition strikes a balance between scientific accuracy (with input from 30 experts) and engaging visitors in the process of discovery in the format of an exploratorium. Around 300 interactive exhibits and installations were developed specifically for the Museum of the World Ocean, including the 16-meter “Wave” screen and the 3-meter-diameter “Globe” sphere screen.
