Project
Library «Shelves»
Category
Best Project of Public Space by Student
About the project (provided by the applicant)
The historic facade of the library takes on a new rhythm thanks to the concise addition of a third-floor extension with stained glass panels, on which the silhouettes of books «come to life» — a metaphor for knowledge accessible to everyone. At night, the facade transforms into an art object: dynamic lighting highlights the geometry of the lines, and light accents visually connect the building with the calm waters of the Volkhov River. The spacious entrance area with panoramic doors and a terrace forms a welcoming zone, inviting both locals and tourists.
Floor scenarios:
1st floor — interactive museum with AR quests and tactile artifacts;
2nd floor — children’s transforming space and lecture hall for film screenings and discussions;
3rd floor — «modern retro» coworking space and a lounge terrace with a view of the river.
Philosophy: «Shelves» is not a storage space, but a living space. Here, history comes to life through technology, learning blends with poetry under the stars, and recycled materials create a boundaryless environment. The books here do not gather dust — they inspire. Everyone will find a corner, but no one will be alone.
