Reconstruction Design Project of the “Book Pier” Library

About the project (provided by the applicant)
The reconstruction project of the library in Novaya Ladoga is a bold dialogue between history and modernity, where every detail contributes to the revival of a public space.
The historical façade is brought back to life through careful restoration of the roof and authentic structures, set in contrast with a futuristic glass extension. Its clean, light-filled planes become a metaphor for the transparency of knowledge, while the dynamic lines reference the digital era, all without disrupting harmony with classical architectural traditions.
The new entrance is more than a functional element—it is a gesture of hospitality. Wide portals, landscape-integrated ramps, and gentle lighting that guides visitors inside transform the library into an open urban forum.
The interiors reveal the project’s core idea: exposed roof rafters, like the skeleton of history, hover above a modernist space featuring coworking areas, immersive media zones, and a convertible café.
