Relict Restaurant

Best Implemented Interior Design Project for Public Space

About the project (provided by the applicant)
Relict is a restaurant of modern authorial cuisine based on local products, where guests can enjoy specialties from different regions of the country. The untouched forest, forming the core concept of the restaurant, is vividly reflected in the interior. The nature of the relict forest is combined with urban concrete aesthetics.

The décor and furniture reflect an authorial interpretation of folkloric motifs. The interior features prints, patterns, and decorative elements inspired by Mezen painting—a folk craft from the late 19th century originating in a village by the Mezen River. Reference to Mezen culture connects to the fact that the Komi Republic hosts the largest relict forest in Eurasia. Patterns inspired by traditional crafts of northern peoples acquire deep meaning and act as a unifying element of the interior. The authorial interpretation of the “relict” symbolizes local and cultural identity and refers to the location of the natural reserve.
