About the project
The retreat center is a space for solitude and spiritual self-knowledge through bodily practices and art therapy.
The author wanted to create a safe space with a clear planning structure that would be read in different ways, and not just visually.
Metaphors and images in traditional Icelandic culture gave the author the idea of sea pebbles stacked around a fire - a central luminous dome, rooted in the ancient tradition of lighting New Year's bonfires in Icelandic families. The volume of the retreat center is made up of pebble stones stacked on top of each other and dissolving into the black sand of the beach.
