Project
Saburovo Estate, Late 18th – Early 19th Century: History, Preservation, and Contemporary Use

Category
Best Architectural Project Created with Hand-Drawn Graphics

About the project (provided by the applicant)
The presented panorama is a fragment of a master’s thesis project dedicated to developing a concept for the preservation and use of the Saburovo Estate buildings. The cultural and historical value of the estate requires revealing the connection between the central core and the surrounding landscape. The ruins of walls and towers, together with the surrounding forest-steppe, resemble a picturesque canvas; from the “fortress,” the space is especially expansive: the view stretches to the horizon, encompassing fields, villages, streams, ravines, and the river—once a carefully arranged estate landscape. Since the late 18th century, the site has largely retained its character.

The panorama combines a scientific graphic reconstruction of the ensemble at the end of the 18th century with a contemporary project proposing the restoration of the historic formal park and the lost volume of the main house in simplified forms, reconstruction of the adjacent rural buildings, and construction of new tourist infrastructure outside the walls of the Saburovo “fortress.” Materials: pen, ink, marker, white paint, tinted tracing paper.
