About the project (provided by the applicant)
The Samra Villa project harmoniously blends traditional Iranian architecture with contemporary sustainable design, employing kahgel a mixture of clay and straw as its primary material. Chosen for its thermal insulation, breathability, and biodegradability, kahgel connects the villa to its natural and cultural context while reducing environmental impact. The design features a simple rectangular form, curved roof, strategically placed openings, and a central courtyard to optimize passive cooling, shading, and natural ventilation. Indigenous materials, sourced locally, create a structure that returns seamlessly to the ecosystem at the end of its life, embodying a holistic sustainability philosophy. Samra Villa exemplifies climate responsive architecture that honors tradition, engages with the environment, and provides a tranquil, comfortable living experience rooted in Iranian heritage.
