Project
Sauna restaurant in Jyväskylä

Category
Best Project of Public Building or Facility

About the project
Sauna restaurant consists of a unique restaurant, three different saunas, and meeting and banquet facilities. You can enjoy the scenery of Lake Jyväsjärvi in the atmospheric sauna facilities and cool off in the lake pool connected to the terrace. Construction will begin in June 2021, and the sauna restaurant will open in early summer 2022. Because of the location and the strong form of the building, it will form a new landmark to the Jyväskylä cityscape. Also the boat of architect Alvar Aalto will be moved next to the building.
In this project, we design a unique building that combines log, a building material known in Finland as traditional and ecological, with today’s modern design language and functionality. The sculpturally formed charred wood exterior preserves the warm, light-colored log building. The goal was to create a landmark building suitable for the landscape, which invites visitors to enjoy its services all year long.
