About the project (provided by the applicant)
Sequences in Motion is a cultural and artistic complex that redefines restoration by revitalizing the lost urban fabric of Famagusta’s Walled City. Inspired by Sergei Eisenstein’s montage theory, the project transforms movement through space into a cinematic narrative, where each step reveals layers of history and culture, and emotions. Historical ruins are not rebuilt but framed and integrated into the spatial journey, using vision lines to orient angular building masses and cantilevered roofs. Lightwells and semi-open transitions guide visitors through dynamic sequences of light and shadow, while elevated bridges create rhythm and continuity across the site. The design merges enclosed and open courtyards, cultural facilities, and exhibition areas into a cohesive network, restoring the area’s cultural significance while fostering interaction, creativity, and community engagement.
