Project
Holy Gates of the Seraphim-Diveyevo Monastery

Category
Best Project of Public Building or Facility

About the project (provided by the applicant)
The Holy Gates building is a gate church with a tented bell tower. Stylistically, the Holy Gates are part of a unified ensemble with the monastery wall and the Sarov Gates, whose style can be attributed to Russian ornamental architecture at the turn of the 19th–20th centuries. The gates are made of brick and coated in white plaster, which enhances the visual expressiveness of the artistic brickwork. The main octagonal tent, supported by a quadrangular base, is flanked by smaller light tents, creating a frontal three-tent composition oriented westward, serving as the central passage arch aligned precisely with the axis of the Kazan Cathedral.

The windows and icon cases on the exterior have traditional trims characteristic of the chosen style, while the portals and the plinth line are highlighted with beige stone. As the project is defined by the testament of Seraphim of Sarov and the existing architectural and urban composition of the Seraphim-Diveyevo Monastery, the volumetric-spatial composition of the Gates building is resolved in a rather unconventional way.
