The Simple Art Museum in Anhui, designed by architects Jenchieh Hung + Kulthida Songkittipakdee / HAS Design and Research, stands at the intersection of tradition and modernity. Inspired by Anhui’s distinctive Hui-style architecture, the museum reinterprets roofs, gables, and gardens into a flowing, undulating form that opens to the public and fosters social interaction.
Situated near the Nanfei River, often called the «Mother River of Hefei», the museum draws inspiration from the rippling waters that have shaped the region for millennia. The design echoes the river’s natural rhythm with curved walls and a wave-like roof that filters light and shadow throughout the day. The museum houses exhibitions, workshops, and community spaces, offering a serene environment that bridges history with contemporary culture. Beyond a gallery, it is a living space that inspires creativity, dialogue, and connection across generations in a rapidly evolving urban landscape.
